A Serene Evening at India Gate

It was a warm August evening in Delhi, and I was eagerly looking forward to exploring one of the city's most iconic landmarks - India Gate. Accompanied by my travel buddies, Zainal Abideen and Nishad Adany, we set out on an adventure that promised a blend of history, culture, and delicious street food.

Our chosen mode of transportation for the evening was an auto-rickshaw, the quintessential Indian three-wheeler. With its vibrant colors and lively character, the auto-rickshaw was the perfect choice for navigating Delhi's bustling streets. As we hopped into our cozy little vehicle, we could feel the excitement building up.

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, we embarked on our journey to India Gate. The cool breeze in our faces was a welcome respite from the scorching Delhi summer. The streets were alive with activity, with vendors selling colorful trinkets, street food, and the occasional street performer entertaining passersby.

Our auto-rickshaw driver skillfully maneuvered through the city's traffic, sharing stories and recommendations along the way. He told us about the history of India Gate, which was built in 1931 as a war memorial to honor the soldiers who lost their lives in World War I. It was an impressive sight, even from a distance, and we couldn't wait to get closer.

As we approached India Gate, the grandeur of the monument became increasingly apparent. Its towering arches and the eternal flame at its base were a sight to behold. We decided to take a leisurely walk along the beautifully landscaped lawns surrounding the monument.

The atmosphere was electric, with families, couples, and tourists from all corners of the globe coming together to admire the iconic structure. Street vendors offered a variety of mouthwatering snacks, and we couldn't resist trying some of the local favorites like spicy chaat and sweet jalebi.

As the sun set behind India Gate, the monument was bathed in a warm, golden glow. We found a quiet spot to sit and soak in the ambiance. Children flew colorful kites, families picnicked on the lawns, and the monument's grandeur seemed even more pronounced under the starry Delhi night sky.

As we sat there, sipping on chai and sharing stories, we realized that this evening at India Gate was not just about visiting a landmark; it was about experiencing the heart and soul of Delhi. It was a reminder of the unity and diversity that makes India so unique.

As the clock struck midnight, we bid farewell to India Gate, but the memories we had created would stay with us forever. Our auto-rickshaw ride back to our accommodation was filled with laughter and reflections on our incredible adventure.

August 8, 2021, was a day well spent with friends, a city well explored, and a monument that left an indelible mark on our hearts. India Gate had given us an evening of serenity, beauty, and a deep appreciation for the history and culture of India.
